Q. What sort of products do you make?

A. Our Physicks are organic, purely plant-based. We consult on each recipe with a medical herbalist who is a member of the The College of Practitioners of Phytotherapy

Q. What sort of ingredients do you use?

A. We are committed organic gardeners and grow as many ingredients as possible; we use local honey and beeswax in some our products.

Q. Do you test on animals?

A. No. Only on willing human beings.

Q. Are your products suitable for vegans and vegetarians?

A. All are suitable for vegetarians. Most are suitable for vegans except of course the few that contain bee products. These are clearly identified.

Q. Where do you source your ingredients?

A. We do our best to find certified organic herbs as near as possible to us geographically.  Very occasionally we use goods produced outside Europe. This saves on airmiles and ensures better freshness and therefore efficacy of herbs.

Q. Do you use preservatives like parabens or other skin nasties?

A. We do not use any SLSs (lauryl sulphates), phlalates, mineral oils, or other petroleum derivatives, or lanolin; no parabens, alcohol, or bleach; no artificial preservatives, sham fragrances or synthetic colours or irradiated raw materials.

Q. Do you use GMOs?

A. We do not use any genetically modified plants,

Q. Are your products certified organic?

A. We comply with all the demands of organic certification and use certified organic ingredients but have not gone through the process of certifying each and every one as it is an expensive process.

Q. Are all your ingredients organic?

A. No. But neither are products which are certified organic. Many certification bodies demand that a large percentage of ingredients are organic, say 80%, and will certify those products as organic.  Some ingredients such as preservatives and glycerine are not organic but are used because they prevent mould and other bugs forming in water-based products. We do our best to use as little as is safe of such ingredients.

Q. Do your products conform to Halal requirements?

A. Our products are suitable for practising Muslims to use as they compliant with the demands of Islamic Halal: no alcohol, no GMOs, no content of (or contact with) any animal carcass or product, no irradiated produce. http://www.halalconsultancy.co.uk/halal.html

Q. Can your packaging be recycled?

A. Containers are glass which is made of silica, sand and fire. Nothing from it can leach into the contents. Or out. It is easy to recycle.

Lids are aluminium. They too are the 'greenest' solution we could find.

There are small amounts of plastic in the pumps and pump straws. We have only used pumps where absolutely necessary.

Card boxes, tissue and postal wrapping all contain as much recycled material  as possible. Some bags are constructed from handmade plant paper.

Ribbon and printing ink are the best we can find on environmental terms.

We try to ask all our suppliers about our environmental policies.

Q. What sort of safety procedures and testing do you carry out?

A. We research our ingredients to ensure user safety and efficacy.

Our consultant herbalist checks each and every product recipe.

Products carry safety certificates in compliance with European Community directives.

Products are tested on us, our friends and family. No animal is used to test any ingredient or product; we insist on similar guarantees from suppliers.
